Scene set for annual Show.

Lurgan & District Horse & Cattle Show Society will host their annual event on Saturday 7th June in Lurgan Public Park and it is set to be a truly memorable event.

Each year the organisers strive to provide alternative entertainment for the many visitors to Lurgan Show but this year many treats are in store for all who come along.

Many attractions will be on show which will include Gun dog trials, Chainsaw Art, Craft Stands, a display of Vintage Vehicles, Northern Ireland Stick Carvers, the NI Fire Brigade, Line Dancers and Irish Dancers. The Salvation Army Band will parade from Windsor Avenue proceeding through the park at noon. They will play from noon until 1pm before parading the return route.

As usual all classes will run for all livestock; cattle, pig, goat, sheep and poultry. The Horse Section as usual, will be again be situated on the hill.
As well as horses, there will be pony, donkey and driving classes on the hill. Last year, the introduction of classes for Miniature Horses and Clydesdale Horses proved to be popular events and so it has been decided to continue with these classes in 2008.

The Home Industries section also provides plenty of competitions for primary and secondary school children as well as many classes for adults. All exhibits for this section will be on display in King’s Park Primary School, which can be entered either from the Public park or by the Avenue Road entrance.

On the cattle lawn at 3pm, Bleary Young Farmers’ Club will host an array of events ranging from Tractor Handling and an inter club, It’s a Knockout Challenge.

The ever-popular Pet Show is expected to attract large entries with entries being taken on the day. So all children are requested to bring their pet along with everyone guaranteed a prize! The event will be situated in the arena beside the Secretary’s Caravan and will start at 2.30pm.

Some 96 years on from that first show, Lurgan Show is still going strong with over 600 various classes and is recognised as one of the foremost one-day events in the Craigavon Borough Council area and remains an excellent day out for all the family.

Be sure to keep Saturday 7th June in your diary.
