Bleary YFC Battle It Out! Members of Bleary Young Farmers’ Club were named runners up of the YFC ‘ Build It’ competition held last Saturday at the Ulster Traction Engine Rally at Ballymena Showgrounds. The competition involved teams battling it out to construct a chicken coup, which needed to be planned, structurally robust but yet creative. Teams were provided with basic tools and materials and given a time of 90 minutes to create their coup. With no design or advice given, teams were also judged on the ability to utilise materials to the best of their advantage. Bleary’s teams consisting of Jason Grant, Gary Irwin and Nigel White hammered and sawed against the clock right to the last second but in the end Holestone YFC, Antrim were announced winners with Bleary taking the reserve placing. Congratulations go to all members involved at both County level and the finals. Success over the summer has also resulted for Susanne Halliday who won 3rd place in the 18- 21 age category of the Ulster Young Farmers’ Dairy Stockjudging competition held at Greenmount Campus in early July. Over 200 members competed in the finals of the Dairy, Beef and Sheep Stockjudging and Assessment competition and again the Club is delighted that Susanne picked up this award.
